Hello Happy Performers,
It’s getting to that time of year when us performers are either plunging into panto, busy with Christmas gigs or wishing we were busier. I often find myself wishing away these last couple of months of the year and starting my ever growing list of new year resolutions, as I strive to become practically perfect… but why wish the time away? Why not enjoy the present? Couldn’t we start today?
The idea for ‘What Would Julie Do?’ was born out of my desire to grow as a person and performer: to do something different. Julie Andrews once said, “Work as hard at your life as in your profession” and I agree.
As a performer/teacher/freelancer, I feel lucky that my working life allows me variety and various ways to exercise my creativity. However, not working a 9-5 schedule sometimes makes it difficult to set boundaries for when your ‘work’ stops and your ‘life’ begins. My work is an extremely important part of my life and I love it…. but I have family, friends, a husband and a whole lot of fun to be had.
So I’ve come up with an 8-week programme of challenges, just for fun, with a ‘What Would Julie do?’ theme and I’d love for you to join in! Are there things that you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t made the time for? What would you do if you weren’t too busy or too scared?
Here’s a very brief description of the 8 challenges…
Week 1: Do: Dough for bread, for tasty bread (gluten free options available)
Week 2: Re: Catch a drop of golden sun
Week 3: Mi: Make some me-time
Week 4: Fa: Go for a run (anyone who knows me personal, knows this is a challenge!)
Week 5: Soh: Sew something (textiles is not my forte!)
Week 6: La: Sing something you wouldn’t normally sing
Week 7: Ti: TEA TIME!!
Week 8: That will bring us back to dough…oh oh… nuts…
I’m going to post a little vlog on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/whatwouldjulie/) and a weekly update on my blog (www.whatwouldjulie.com) and more on twitter and instgram (@whatwouldjulie). I’d love for you to follow my journey up the do-re-mi challenge scale and JOIN IN!! Interpret the challenge in whatever way you like… share your experiences using #doremichallenges and tag @whatwouldjulie and @Happy_Performer.
